I live in a single family home development with an HOA. Recently an owner allowed a criminal to rent in the community. His behavior and actions escalated into a swat team situation in which he was removed from the home. As of today there are no restrictions on who can live in the community or any rent controls. The association claims this is a matter for police and not an issue they can address in any way. I always thought that an HOA can control renting and who non owners are. Can anything be done or can the HOA wash their hands of any criminal on goings in the community?
