Husband and I are contemplating buying a cabin in the mountains of WA and renting it on airbnb or similar whenever it’s vacant. I worry about short-term renters though – can you share your experience owning or managing a short-term rental?

We [both mid-40s] have run the numbers and could afford a place without renting it out, but of course having a rental income would cover some expenses and help us save more.

I am nervous, though, about dealing with the hassle of short-term renters. I would love to hear your horror stories, success stories, and general experiences of owning or managing a vacation rental. We'd probably get a local management company to handle the turnover – anything to look out for there?
